These tactile handmade mugs are the perfect gift for your beloved, a friend or anyone special to show your love.

The mugs are thrown on the potters wheel from speckled stoneware clay, then trimmed, handled and fired for the first time. I then apply the stencil of a repeated heart design and hand paint a red to pink ombré fade in underglaze colours. I coat this with wax resist before removing the stencil and dunking the mug into white glaze. I spend ages cleaning up the hearts (56 hearts!) before glaze firing the mugs, which brings out the speckle in the clay through the glaze. The difference in surface texture between the hearts and the white glaze makes them super-tactile to hold.

Every item is entirely handmade by Emma and there will be some variations in size, shape and finish. Photos are illustrative of the handmade item you will receive. Items sold individually. Please bear in mind that the heart stencils are a 2D image around a 3D object - they require adjustment when applying and are not 100% straight to a fraction of a millimetre. I’m not a machine!

I have some slight seconds available at a reduced price - on these items the glaze clean up around some of the hearts is imperfect. Please see example photos in this listing for what you can expect to receive.
